Help design, build, and maintain the software independent automobile dealerships rely on every day.
About Us
Wayne Reaves Auto Dealers Solutions is a leading provider of software and website solutions for independent used automobile dealerships nationwide. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Developer & Software Architect to join our team.
About the Role
The ideal candidate will be proficient in modern web technologies, have extensive experience with various programming languages and frameworks, and possess an understanding of database management and software development concepts. You will be responsible for helping design, develop, and maintain complex applications, collaborating with cross-functional teams, code review, and mentoring junior developers.
You will work closely alongside our Technical Architect, who owns the overall technical design of the platform. This role involves architectural responsibility. You will help decide how a feature is structured before it gets built: what runs server side versus client and where existing code should be extended instead of rewritten.
This is a hands-on role. Most of your week is in production code, with the architectural work happening alongside it.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the CIO, Technical Architect, and QA.
- Take a business problem and turn it into a technical design, including what is handled by server versus client and how the data is modeled.
- Learn the codebase well enough to reuse and/or extend what exists where appropriate.
- Design, develop, and maintain web applications using TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Write clean, efficient, and reusable code and ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.
- Develop application servers with Koa.
- Develop application clients with Ractive.js.
- Write complex SQL queries and interact with PostgreSQL.
- Manage session state, ephemeral data, and registered data change subscriptions with Redis or Valkey.
- Debug and optimize applications using browser development tools and Node.js inspector ports.
- Manage and version control codebases using Git and GitHub.
- Build and package TypeScript projects using tools such as Rollup, Bun, Webpack, esbuild, and Babel.
- Set up and maintain development and production environments, including reverse proxies like Caddy or nginx.
- Collaborate with team members using VS Code for live sharing.
- Manage long-running interactive console sessions with terminal multiplexers such as tmux or screen.
- Participate in code reviews, including catching architectural problems, mentoring junior developers, and sharing knowledge within the team.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Languages
Proficient in TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Comfortable scripting with Bash, Zsh, Ksh, Fish, Nushell, Csh, Tcsh, PowerShell, or batch.
Frameworks
Experience with one or more of Ractive, Vue, Svelte, React, or Angular; Mustache or Handlebars for templating; and one or more of Express, Koa, Oak, Hapi, or Fastify. Windows Forms applications and/or MVC experience is a bonus.
Databases
Proficient in complex SQL queries and working with at least one of PostgreSQL, SQLite, Apache Derby, MySQL, MSSQL, DB2, or Oracle. Experience building JSON object graphs and using EXPLAIN queries.
Development Tools
Proficient with browser development tools, TypeScript projects, Git, and GitHub. Comfortable with Node.js, npm, Rollup, Bun, Webpack, esbuild, and Babel.
Software Concepts
Knowledge of functional programming, static versus dynamic typing, strong/strict versus weak/loose typing, recursion with tail call optimization, memory management, and synchronous versus asynchronous I/O.
Architecture
Understanding of client/server architecture, including where validation, state, and rendering should live and why.
Additional Experience
Preferable experience with a selection of Go, Zig, Scala, Dart, Rust, Erlang, C, C++, C#, Java, Groovy, Ruby, or Python, along with familiarity with Vim, Emacs, Helix, tmux, screen, and SSH.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent amount of experience in a relevant role.
